About Matilda 关于我

I am a neuroscience researcher based in Singapore. Fascinated by the “binding problem”, I decided to venture into neuroscience after graduating with my bachelor’s degree in engineering.

When my brain is temporarily released from the burning neuroscience questions, I enjoy making art. My favorite medium is watercolor; I guess it just fits well with my art persona.

Beyond that, I am also quite experienced with doing portraits with pencil, ball pens, charcoal and all sorts of pens.

Occasionally, I craft objects with paper clay, natural elements (e.g. leaves), and so on.

I also enjoy reading a lot. By a lot, I am not emphasizing that I read many, many books (not a good pursuit anyway); instead, I tend to read some of my favourite books over and over again. Paul Graham wrote that each time you read a book, it’s like compiling the information of the book with your current OS (i.e. your brain). Now and then, I tend to re-read my favourite books to get some refreshing insights.

As of now, some of my favourite books include: Le Petit Prince (yes, welcome to Planet B-612!); To Kill a Mocking Bird; The Neapolitan Novels; The Moon and Sixpence; Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance; Walden… Although I have been pushing myself to read more non-fictions, I am still quite addicted to novels and science fictions. My soul thrives on beautiful stories and imaginations unbounded.

And my favourite poet is Pablo Neruda.

Studying science gives me precision and clarity; practicing art imbues me with sensitivity and expressivity. What could be more intriguing than the human brain? What more expressive than humanity itself?
